Rocket Arena, formerly known as the Quicken Loans Arena, in Cleveland, Ohio, is home to countless basketball games, concerts and events throughout the year. By 2017, the arena’s original 170,000 sq ft Hypalon roof had endured decades of harsh lakefront weather, leading to discussions about a complete roof replacement.
Rather than performing a costly roof tear off and replacement, Tremco Roofing proposed a more affordable alternative that would prevent the facility from having to shut down. The roofing advisors conducted a visual and moisture analysis that discovered more than 90% of the roof could be restored using Tremco’s AlphaGuard MT system. Areas of damaged insulation were removed and replaced to meet wind uplift design requirements, which allowed for roof cleaning using Rooftec system to begin.
Once the roof was fully cleaned and dried, the AlphaGuard MT roof system primer, basecoat and topcoats were easily applied, including custom coating colors, without disrupting the venue's operations.
Ultimately, the AlphaGuard MT system was the ideal solution to return the old roof to a high-performing weatherproofing system and added a 20-year warranty that doubled the roof’s service life.
