Canada’s largest convention center, the EnerCare Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto, faced a critical infrastructure challenge: restoring its massive 13-acre roof without disrupting their 2,000 events a year. The building owner and facility managers needed a solution that guaranteed waterproofing integrity, rapid execution and operational continuity.
“We wanted to make sure it was seamless…and not have to interrupt any of our clients that are on multi-year contracts," explained Don Boyle, CEO of Exhibition Place.
A complete roof replacement would have necessitated a costly roof tear-off down to the structural deck, a process which is noisy, disruptive and generates immense waste. To address these challenges, Tremco Roofing, the contractors at Triumph and the Entuitive consultants implemented a roof restoration strategy using AlphaGuard™ FC LO (Fast Cure-Low Odor). This fluid-applied roof system allowed the installers to apply the new waterproof coating directly over the existing roof substrate without disrupting the building’s operations.
With daily site inspections and support from Tremco, the roof restoration with AlphaGuard FC LO successfully restored the over 500,000 sq ft roof and diverted ~470 tons of waste from landfills.
This roofing restoration solution even secured a 30-year warranty that is perpetual in nature. At year 25, the roof surface simply requires cleaning, priming and recoating to provide another 25 years of service life.
