The home of the Detroit Lions enlisted Tremco Roofing's help to deliver the perfect roofing solution.
Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, required cutting-edge innovation and sustainability in its 2016 roof restoration. Spanning 340,000 sq ft, the project aimed to address deterioration issues and enhance energy efficiency of the structure for long-term functionality of the iconic stadium.
After 14 years, the harsh Michigan winters and humid summers caused significant wear and tear to Ford Field’s existing domed roof, leading to leaks and moisture-laden insulation. Tremco Roofing’s team analyzed the roof and determined it was a great candidate for restoration, an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution compared to a complete roof tear-off and replacement. The roof restoration route would also result in substantial time savings to minimize disruption to the facility and its frequent revenue-generating events.
The process began with replacement of the damaged roof membrane and insulation, with weatherproofing repairs as needed. The contractors prepped the roof with Tremco’s RoofTec™ cleaning system, providing the ideal substrate for application of the Alphaguard™ BIO roof system. This system was chosen for its high reflectivity and low heat absorption, which reduces energy usage and improves the building's thermal performance. The installation, which included a reinforced base coat, topcoat and a customized logo using Solargard Acrythane, was completed in under 60 days, allowing the Lions and other scheduled events to continue without delays.
